I Just Handed in My Resignation – Why I’ve Decided to Be My Own Boss

Why I’ve Decided to Be My Own Boss

It’s official – I’ve resigned. One month from now I will be giving up my status as employee to become a fully-fledged member of the self-employed world. I will be running Clever Little Fishes, my web design company, full-time. Scary? Yes, a little a lot. The thought of obligations to the HMRC and having no secure salary is a worry, but these negatives are far outweighed by the thought that I will be my own boss, I will be able to dictate my hours to fit around looking after my baby son, and I’ll get to spend a whole lot more time with my family.

I don’t think I’ve ever quite fitted the mould of working for a big organisation, but somehow I managed to find myself there. I’ve always dreamed of being my own boss. Having Luca just reminded me (and my wife) of that dream. I’m not a spontaneous person, but even for the unspontaneous like me sometimes life throws at you something which makes you do something completely out of your comfort-zone, possibly crazy and always exciting.
