The Best Films Being Made Right Now
I am a massive film fan and I’m always interested to know what’s coming. Here are a few that have caught my eye already…
How to Catch a Monster (2014)
In spring 2013 Ryan Gosling will film his directorial debut, a ‘fantasy noir’ that is his own original screenplay. Christina Hendricks (of Mad Men), Saoirse Ronan (of Atonement and Hanna) and Matt Smith (our very own Dr Who) are reported to be starring too. The film will be about “a single mother swept into a dark underworld, while her teenage son discovers a road that leads him to a secret underwater town.” It’s described as a sort of dark modern day fairytale (I’m thinking in the vein of Big Fish perhaps?). Ryan Gosling is a brilliant actor so I am hopeful he can translate his skills to be a great director too. Sounds great anyway.
The New Justice League Film (2015)
This film is based on the fictional superhero team that appeared in the DC Comic books. It originally featured Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lanterna and Batman, and rumour has it Warner Bros wants Christian Bale to reprise his role as the latter. There were supposedly all sorts of problems with the script. In June 2012, following the success of the The Avengers, Will Beall was hired to write the screenplay, but last month there were reports of it being scrapped. Now there are folk saying that one of my favourites Christopher Nolan has been put in charge of development and that he and Zack Snyder will produce the film. Who knows, but if Warner Bros can manage to get it together we’re looking at a new Justice League film for summer 2015.
Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
If you follow Clever Little Fishes on Facebook you’ll know I’m a huge Star Wars fan. As a kid I loved all things Star Wars and it never really went away. This film is supposedly going to star Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher again, though now there’s talk that the story will follow the children of Luke, Leia and Han so I’m not quite sure what their role will be. In fact not much has been announced so we’re a bit in the dark, but that just adds to the excitement. I do wonder to what Disney’s influence will be on it, and also director J J Abrahms. It has the potential to rock my world and I’m really excited that Luca will be old enough to join me watching it and (hopefully) begin a life long love of Star Wars like his dad.
