Favourite UK Film Releases for April 2013

So spring is upon us and all I see is snow! Before I go and build a snowman I’m going to share my favourite UK Film Releases for April 2013 with you. Enjoy.

Friday 5 April 2013 – A Late Quartet

What a cast — Christopher Walken, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener! This is a drama about a group of friends who struggle to keep a lid on 25 years worth of uncontrollable passions, suppressed emotions and competing egos.

Friday 12 April 2013 – The Place Beyond the Pines

I’m a big Ryan Gosling fan, and Bradley Cooper has won me over since The Hangover and The A-Team, so the prospect of a movie starring both is quite exciting (possibly more so for my wife). The plot involves Ryan (we are on first name terms) racing around on a motorcycle causing some trouble. The film is directed by Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine”) also stars Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne & Ray ‘I’m still around’ Liotta.

Friday 19 April 2013 – The Evil Dead

Hmmmm (that’s a sceptical Hmmmm by the way). To be honest I’m not sure why people would dare touch this classic and ‘reboot’ it but I have to say I am curious. I was 1 month old when the original was released but I do remember seeing the VHS on a top shelf in my parents living room teasing me. Evil Dead II is one of my favourite films so if this film turns out to be a flop I hope TriStar and Ghost House Pictures take heed. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert all have taken producer roles so there’s room for optimism.

Friday 26 April 2013 – Iron Man 3

Excited? Hell yeah! So the writer of Lethal Weapon, and other action genre movies, has been handed directing duties despite only having directed 1 other movie (that’s not a typo). Ben Kingsley is cast as the main villain, The Mandarin, and the newest trailer doesn’t rock my world at all. Still excited? I’m a little worried to be honest but Robert Downey Jr. will provide ample reasons to keep watching and I’m sure there will be some Avengers sequel suggestions in the plot somewhere.

See you in the cinema.

Ant
